To me it would start with a home energy audit for any residential home whether containing a home business or not.

Many utilities are offering it for free; otherwise it costs around $350-ish for a two to three hour detailed review of the house's energy efficiency / inefficiency.

We had a home energy audit performed last fall and have written about it (on the ECOENERGY page of our home web site) so others can become more aware of what is contained in the actual report: the charts, the graphs, the EnerGuide rating, the recommendations and so on.

This home energy audit report provides a blue print for the home owner on energy conservation tactics and approaches specific to their home. Each home is unique.
